HELP CHRISTIANS IN North East INDIA

On May 3rd, 2023, ethnic violence broke out in the northeastern state of Manipur in India.

World Outreach workers among the majority group were severely affected, losing their homes, churches, and livelihoods to violent mobs. The religious tensions and animosity persist even sixteen months after the initial outbreak, making it dangerous for Christian gatherings to take place.

In addition to the ongoing tensions, armed patrols by vigilantes along local travel and trade routes have led to rapid inflation for food and essential supplies. To compound the situation, flooding and unprecedented hailstorms this year have caused further destruction. Local residents, including our co-workers, are still struggling to rebuild their lives.

Rebuilding Lives in Manipur: Urgent Call for Aid

Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those who are working to spread the gospel amidst these challenging circumstances:

  • One pastor needs building materials (such as concrete) to construct a small house for himself and his family on his parent’s property after their previous living quarters at the church were burnt and destroyed.
  • Another frontline worker is facing a family crisis involving illness-related expenses and loss of income, with his brother and father having to take long trips across the country with more to come.
  • Many others have accrued debts from borrowing money from neighbours or others to cope with the floods, heightened expenses, and repairing roofs damaged by hail storms. This financial burden weighs heavily on them, and they struggle to make ends meet each month. Even the wives with side jobs are unable to sell their wares, as the community lacks the spending money to purchase from them due to the increased daily costs caused by the ongoing conflict.

We are seeking to raise $17,000 in aid for our brothers and sisters in Manipur.

Your partnership will help make it possible for their work to continue.

For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. (Romans 12:4-5 NIV)
