Easter 2023
The Power of Jesus' Blood
A very happy Easter from Melbourne!
As Christians, we have been cleansed from our sins by the substitutionary death of Jesus on the cross. In this article, I’d like to briefly explore what Jesus’ blood has accomplished for us.
Jesus came into the world as fully human while never ceasing to be fully God (John 1:14). Being human, like us, he had a body and blood (Hebrews 2:14). The purpose of this was his crucifixion, where his body and blood would be offered to God as the supreme sacrifice for sin. Jesus became the sin-bearer (John 1:29).
Because of his sinlessness, death could not hold him (Acts 2:24). He was raised triumphant over sin, death and Satan. He ascended as our Great High Priest into the heavenly tabernacle, presenting his blood as the eternal (once-for-all) sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 9:11-14).
Here are seven statements that declare what the blood of Jesus has accomplished for us.
- Jesus’ blood provides us with full and free forgiveness for all our sins (Hebrews 9:22; Matthew 26:28).
- Jesus’ blood justifies us (Romans 5:9). Justification is the act of God by which he declares guilty people righteous (guiltless, acquitted of all charges) through their faith in Jesus Christ.
- Jesus’ blood cleanses our conscience (Hebrews 9:14).
- Jesus’ blood frees us from our sins (Revelation 1:5).
- Jesus’ blood redeems us from our empty way of life (1 Peter 1:18-19) To ‘redeem’ means ‘release, ransom, to atone by making a substitutionary payment’. Jesus purchased our life with his blood. We are now blood-bought.
- Jesus’ blood has provided access to a personal relationship with God (Hebrews 10:19-22). Jesus’ blood opens the ‘new and living way’ to have intimate, personal, eternal communion with God anywhere, anytime.
- Jesus’ blood helps us to overcome Satan when he attacks us as the ‘accuser’ or ‘adversary’ (Revelation 12:10-11).
Therefore, this Easter, let’s appropriate the finished work of the cross in our lives, let’s walk in the light (1 John 1:7), and boldly proclaim that, by the blood of Jesus, ‘I am free, I am forgiven, I am protected, I am cleansed, I am justified, I am his, and he is mine.’
God bless,
